Energy trade is one of the main drivers of the European Union (EU) trade balance. The EU exports increased by 4.1% and imports decreased by 3.2% leading to EU trade surplus rising to 28.0 billion Euros ($30.9 billion) in October 2019 from 13.2 billion in October 2018. The EU Energy imports reduced by 7.7% between January to October 2019, reducing energy trade gap to 228.8 billion Euros from 246.7 billion in 2018. The euro zone exports increased by 2.1% and imports reduced by 0.9% leading to trade surplus increasing from 18.7 billion in September 2019 to 24.5 billion euro in October 2019.
